Michael Underwood
More Than a Trainer, A Basketball Maven for the Next Generation
Michael Underwood fell in love with basketball at age 10, but was the first person in his family to play basketball, so there wasn't anyone in the family to really show him the ropes
Despite the lack of guidance, Michael scrubbed Youtube for every single drill or video he could find that would help him learn how to get better. He played his first organized game in 7th grade, and probably scored less than 10 points combined between his 7th & 8th grade seasons... TRASH
He continued to follow his spiraled notebook full of drills that he wrote down from Youtube, spending 5-8 hours a day in the gym. And eventually became THE ONLY player in Fort Worth ISD to sign Division 1 in his graduating class, to a small school in Connecticut.
After multiple knee surgeries, and struggles to stay healthy & overcome plateaus in college, Michael transferred from that D1, to a Junior College, and from that Junior College to a D2 University, before dropping out of college after another knee surgery junior year.
It didn't make sense in the moment, but the complicated journey that Michael's career took him, put him in perfect position to understand athlete's at every level, from the shy beginner, to the arrogant star, to the crippled hooper.
This has helped him use every life lesson from his "failed" career, to guide players from where they're at to where they want to get to, both on and off the court.
After dropping out of college, Michael began coaching AAU and training his players at 21 years old, with the hopes of "being the resource for kids that I know I needed." But as he began to train, he was just doing the exciting drills that trainers had on youtube, but he wasn't able to see the direct correlation of the training into games. There had to be a way to make things more effective...
After hours of studying game film, interviewing Coaches, NBA trainers, and trying to find the things that ACTUALLY WORKED in middle school & high school games. Michael created the "Ground-Zero Skill Building" program, that was the exact roadmap for players to go from raw beginner, to an efficient in-game player, in little time. It also served to help advanced players outgrow plateaus by adding EXACTLY what they needed to their game to solve specific problems, without any fluff.
Michael started on this journey to help players overcome the obstacles that caused himself, and other players to feel stuck, and provide a REAL SOLUTION that gave REAL RESULTS to the players that are starving to be great.
Michael's vision is to continue to make the DFW one of the powerhouses of producing Elite College Athletes, by creating an environment that the players WANT to be in, & teaching them the specific strategies to developing their skill, their bodies, and their minds to out perform everyone in their class.
Basketball is a very competitive landscape, so in order to show out, you have to continue to surround yourself with the best coaches, peers, and resources that will help you maximize all of your potential...
